It don’t mean a thing if it ain’t got that swing! Last Thursday, The Bay School was certainly a-swing as students from three local middle school bands attended Bay’s first ever Jazz Fest. Students spent the afternoon participating in workshops with Tunnel Six, an international jazz group with members hailing from Canada and across the U.S. During the evening portion of the fest, Bay’s jazz band took center stage, performing standards like Horace Silver’s “Nica’s Dream” – a favorite of not only music and humanities teacher Colin Williams, but also of Daniel ’15, pictured above – and a funky version of Gershwin’s “Summertime.” Tunnel Six closed the evening with a genre-bending set of original music, captivating the audience with their lush, introspective compositions.
